BIONIC
KANGAROOS AND SINISTER HITCHHIKERS

Here is a brief
interview with Jerry from Yahoo news.

Williams Plans Movie On Triumph, Tragedy Of Dr. Charles
Drew/Jerry O'Connell Mixes It Up With Kangaroos
By Marilyn Beck and Stacy Jenel Smith
HE'S BUSHED: Filming on the just-wrapped comedy "Down and Under" got "pretty rough,"
according to former "Sliders" star Jerry O'Connell. O'Connell's just back from six months of lensing in
Australia on the movie, which also stars Christopher Walken and Dyan Cannon. "We were in Sydney
four months, and the outback two months ... definitely roughing it out there. It was over 100 degrees
every day. Not that I need to be pampered, but being from New York, I like to be near a 24-hour deli
at all times," says the actor.
The "Down and Under" tale has him as a hapless fellow who "winds up having to make a mob payment
in the Australian outback" -- $100,000 that ends up being spirited into the bush by a kangaroo. Real
kangaroos were used in the movie, which Jerry admits, "I didn't like that they're such unpredictable
animals. But we also had a bionic kangaroo, made by the people who did 'Babe,' and that one was so
cute and cuddly, I'd like to take it home and sleep with it."
Jerry, who stars with Amy Jo Johnson in a chilling "Night Visions" episode airing on Fox Aug. 2, lets us
know there's nothing cute or cuddly about his character on the show -- a sinister hitchhiker.
AMERICA'S SWEETHEARTS PREMIERE
7/17/01
Jerry was among
the list of celebrities who attended the premiere of America's
Sweethearts at the Mann Village in Westwood. According
to dmk759, Jerry was seen on Entertainment Tonight. He laughed and
told the reporter he was there because he heard that Julia Roberts was single again.
The August 6th issue of US magazine quoted Jerry as saying, "I'm
here to get Julia's phone number... Just seven little numbers, that's
all I need."
This is what
Australia's Daily Telegraph had to say in the Sydney Confidential
column:
Jerry tails single Julia
GOOD to see Confidential's favourite American actor Jerry O'Connell has wasted no time
getting into the single scene in LA.
O'Connell, who spent most of his sixth month stint in Australia working out the best
venues to pick up chicks, expressed his readiness to pick up where Benjamin Bratt left
off at the premiere of Julia Robert's latest film, American Sweethearts.
``I am on a mission tonight for one reason, I heard Julia Roberts is single -- I have a pen
and paper, and I am leaving with some digits,'' he said.
But if the self-confessed skirt-chaser's previous experiences are anything to go by then
the bubbly actor doesn't stand a chance.
JERRY
COMMENTS ON TARA REID AND CARSON DALY'S BREAK UP
7/12/01
The July 16th
2001 issue of People weekly has a quote from Jerry regarding the split
between Reid and Daly:
The news came as a shock to friends. "I thought for sure they were going to [get married]," says
Reid's actor pal Jerry O'Connell, who went to this year's Super Bowl with the couple. Despite
O'Connell's surprise, he isn't exactly torn up. "I think it's sad that a really cute, nice couple broke up,"
he says. "But the good news is that she's available again - I'm going to be
the first in line!"

While in Australia,
Jerry did an interview with PMFM (Perth radio station) to promote
Tomcats. Here is a link to the transcript
of the interview
that took place on April 12 2001. (Transcript done by Sliderseth
at the Sci Fi Sliders bboard)

JERRY O'CONNELL
APPEARS ON AUSTRALIA'S "ROVE LIVE."
7/3/01
Jerry recently
appeared on the Australia talk/variety show "Rove Live".
Thanks to Maddy for giving us a recap of Jerry's interview:
Jerry was
wearing a brown suit and a striped shirt... he was acting VERY
hyper, really excited about being on Rove. He was making heaps of jokes
about Australian stuff.
He said of Coober Pedy something like "I like my women with teeth, not
alot of teeth, just one or
two is enough..." It was something like that. Basically he was picking
the shit out of the place, he
said it was scary...lol. He's like "No its great, but seriously don't
ever go there."
He was talking about all the partying he's been doing down under. He
drinks VB!!!! He was
picking on Aussie-speak. He said he didn't get it when we said "It's
your shout" (this means your
turn to buy...as in drinks), lol so he literally shouted. Then he said
he didn't get it when we said
"Taking the piss" this is an Aussie term that means ummm kind of picking
on someone I guess. He
said he replied to someone who said "you're taking the piss" by saying
no, I just went to the
bathroom...lol.
He said he went to Ayres Rock, but didn't climb despite having brought
hiking boots...and stayed in
the gift-shop. He confessed to being a New York boy.
He said his parents are from England and New Jersey. He was taking off
their accents. That was
funny. He was doing his Mum's accent and saying "Make sure you wear
a suit tonight to the Rove
show."
He talked a bit about "Down and Under"... the plot sounds a little silly...
and there is nothing worse
for us Aussies than American films that take the piss out of us (lol.)
Howvere, it might be funny.
Jerry's hair was looking very brown...
he looked different. Don't know if you guys have seen this
look. ....He was VERY enthusiastic...maybe nerves? I haven't really
seen any tv interviews
with Jerry before so I don't know if this is how he usually acts...
I usually just see transcripts.
He said he is leaving tomorrow "unfortunately". I'm not sure if this
means leaving Melbourne or
leaving Australia... I'd guess Australia.
